This isn't something I wanted to see 2 weeks after going through a painful vasectomy:

Workout Thoughts

Random thoughts during a workout and 3 mile run this morning:

I was told once that taking 2 weeks off of your workout regiment reverts you back to the condition you were in before your started the regiment. I don’t remember who told me that. It can’t be right. I took 2 weeks off until today per doctor’s orders. I felt stronger today than the last time I worked out. I did notice that the run was harder but strength-wise, no loss.

Back to my vasectomy and the anesthesia not working: I know I have mentioned several times the research into the red-head gene that shows different reactions to anesthesia but there might be another reason why it happened. I did a 6-mile run about an hour before going to the doctor for the procedure. Is it possible that this had something to do with it?

Great keynote speaker at this conference I went to yesterday on Interactive Digital Technology. Peter Tamte of Destineer studios spoke on the ever-expanding importance of serious games. One of his more interesting points was on the ongoing “war” for market share between Sony and Microsoft. He views games as the Trojan horse in the realization of all households having 1 consol for all communications and entertainment with the Xbox 360 and Playstation as, more and more, demonstrating the capabilities to play this role. Why else would Microsoft accept consistent and substantial financial losses on their Xbox product?

...And one final thought as I finished up my workout and glanced over at the guy on the ab machine: Man, that dude should really focus more on cardio as opposed to sitting on the crunch machine building ab muscle that will essentially push the excessive fat on his belly out even further.

Vast Difference

scalpel.jpg
This posting is sure to make all men cringe and feel the blood run from the lower portions of their body.

I had a vasectomy yesterday. Most people I spoke with said, "piece of cake," or "no worries." I tell a different tale. The first incision went just fine. The second incision into my right...er..."target" did not go as smooth. Apparently, the anesthesia had not taken and when the doctor cut into my...er..."target" I about leaped off the table in pain. I actually felt bad for the doctor. I will never forget the look on his face as he realized his incision had caused that kind of pain. They quickly went back in with another, deeper shot to my...er..."target." That didn't feel real good. When they then went to prepare my left...er..."target" with the anesthesia they put extra massive amounts of the anesthesia deep into my...er..."target" That didn't feel good at all either.

All in all, not something I would ever want to repeat but it is fun to tell the story and watch the looks on other dude's faces as they start to feel it in their own groins. I feel like I’m a member of a club or fraternity now but I don't know any of the other members. Remember that post I wrote a few months ago about red heads and our differing reactions to anesthesia. I can confirm now that there is something to that. I wish I couldn't.

Grey Goo

Grey goo could be a variety of things for me today. It could be the way my brain feels right now after spending several hours doing print design this morning and early afternoon. I hate print design. I hate paper. Why can't everyone just go to the website?

Grey goo could be what is left of everyone's brain who spent great deals of time at CBGBs in NYC which by the way, is supposedly really closing this time. I guess we will see. It's been said many times before. This is the first time I've seen it written in a major media outlet. Maybe this time, it's for real. Read the article

Grey goo could be the way your brain feels as you read this useless, "I need to update my blog," stream of conscious posting for the sake of posting post.

Grey Goo could be the stress related substances building up in my arteries as I go yet another whole day unable to do my work in Second Life because of a self-replicating attack shutting down the entire grid. These entire days of the system being down are really a bummer for those of use who are actually making part or all of our living working in Second Life. The grid attacks really do make for good missed deadline excuses though.

It is the self-replicating attacks on the Second Life grid that brought me to Grey Goo in the first place, a term that is most accurately defined here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_goo and for those of you who always chastise me when I get "geeky" in my blog, that should be enough to definitely turn your own brains into Grey Goo.

Hammer of the Ages

LedZeppelin.jpg

Perhaps one of the greatest perks to working at a University today is that you are able to have access over the network to thousands upon thousands of songs and albums via shared libraries in iTunes. To put it most simply, when I allow iTunes to look for shared libraries, it sniffs out all other users, mostly students, in my proximity on the network and gives me listening access to their music libraries.

Along with the fact that I just don’t get “Death Cab for Cutie” I have made one other startling realization. In 200 years when all other music of the 20th century is forgotten Led Zepplin with be the last band standing. I can safely state that at least one Led Zepplin album is in 90% to 95% of all student music libraries today. Amazing. These percentages in and of themselves are not so amazing since I could state the same percentage for Death Cab for Cutie however the last real Led Zepplin album before John Bonham’s death was released in 1979, nearly 30 years ago. Since then, Zepplin has remained a consistent staple in every college student’s music library and still is today.

What shocks me a bit is how rare it is that I see a Stones or Beatles album in these same student’s libraries. I am truly surprised to not see many libraries with Exile on Main Street, Sticky Fingers, or the White album. It is pleasing though to know that however many Deathcab for Cuties come along in years to come, an old man will always have Zepplin as the one common ground musical discussion with younger generations. I’m not stating that Zepplin were or are the best. I don’t really believe in best when it comes to art, but most timeless, yes.
