Smokin' Hottie Philanthropy

lui.jpgjolie.jpg

I’ve noticed recently several smokin’ hottie Mc-hot-hot women all over the television supporting the cause of displaced refugees around the world. Apparently this is what it takes these days to drive ample attention to your philanthropic cause. Yesterday being World Refugee Day had Lucy Lui and Angela Jolie doing the circuit for the cause. It’s too bad that people are so unaware until a tight-bodied hottie hypnotizes them into seeing the injustices in the world. Refugees all over the world should thank their stars that my ugly ass is not the mouthpiece for global human rights injustice

I See a Moon

The Race Across America goes right by our house every spring. It's pretty cool. These bike race teams consist of the person on the bike along with campers and vans full of their entourage people. Often they are accompagnied by loud blaring music, lights and cheering fans.

What does this have to do with the photo above? Sunday night I started noticing some cars pulling over in the road just beyond my house. I was out in the front yard bent over picking something up in the lawn. Over the last couple of years I have developed pretty serious "plumbers butt" because most of my pants are too big on me. I normally don't care when I'm out in my own yard. This night however, as I am bent over showing off my crack to the horizon, several bike teams along with the official race media truck came over the hill filming the bikers and the people on the side of the road waving. I have no doubt that they also caught my "coin slot" in the shot. I think I'm going to buy a belt.

Unwritten Rules

There are some unwritten rules on the road where we live. One of those rules is: No use of Chemlawn or other "make your lawn greener than a crayon chemicals." I really like that rule in particular. Mind you, it is not a stated rule we just all have a kind of unsaid understanding.

I own several acres of land. I mow 3 of those acres. Some of the other people on our road own and mow even more. Our properties all run together so it makes for a nice drive of mowed rolling hills with the wooded hills in the background as you drive down the road. All it would take is for one fancy-pants to start greening up their lawn and the rest of us would be bound into 100s if not 1000s of dollars per year in lawn chemicals. It's especially tempting during a time like now where it has not rained for what seems to be months and we are all sitting on browned out lawns already. No worries though. If the lawns brown out, we will all brown out together. It's a nice feature of living in the country. We all have enough work to do on our properties and farms without seeing a browned out lawn as somewhat of an unsightly timesaver, that is, as long as nobody breaks the unwritten rule.

Another unwritten rule, especially in these Appalachian parts is that most of us refrain from paving our driveways. As long as everyone refrains, we all happily save on expensive capital outlay of paving and the periodic seal treatments thereafter. There is however one house across the road who has paved his very long drive. We are all eyeing each others drives very carefully to make sure this is an exception and does not get out of control. :)

Mixed Bag

In place of the yellow string around your finger or writing in pen on your hand there is a new service called Jott for getting reminders to your phone as text and speech. Pretty cool and thanks Dave for the 411 on your blog.

In other news, check this story about the kid in a wheelchair who took a 50 MPH ride locked into the grill of a semi-truck. If I ever need a wheelchair, I want to know what this dude has.

In really important world news I happened to be turned onto this story from Tiffin, Ohio's Advertiser Tribune about a fiberglass squirrel that was stolen from a dude's front yard. The funny thing is that I was sent this story by someone who does not live in Tiffin and has never been there. The tone of the article is just a riot.
