A New New York

I spent a lot of time in New York City over the past 15 years of my life. I did freelance work for a couple of agencies in the city and have also come many times just for pleasure and/or to spend time with friends.

This week I am getting a whole different look at the city. This is the first time that I have come the city with my wife and kids. If your with a good looking wife and cute kids you don't even have to be outgoing in New York. Pretty girls will cross subway trains to come over and talk to you. People smile at you on the street like its a small town.

This is a clear case of had I known then what I know now. Had I known when I was a young single man this strange power of wives and children in attracting friendly people and pretty girls I would have always sought out the single mom with cute kids on the train and planted myself next to them in some sort of faux dad like stance. I would have respectfully walked as close as possible to moms and cute kids up the street and done more to help women with strollers up the subway steps.

So, to all you dads: I would highly suggest packing up the whole family and coming to NYC and you won't have to bring your personality. People will literally rush you to get some talk time as long as you are with your kids. I might also suggest you practice caution with your eyes and neck in the presence of pretty girls and your wife lest you end getting busted gawking. Take it from me, I was busted at dinner last night by both my wife and daughter mid gawk. It's lucky for me that we were in a restaurant or the back of my neck would have been sore.

Perverts

NYC Transit Plans Anti-Groping Campaign

What the hell is wrong with people. This may seem old school and neanderthal of me but if every right-minded male within proximity of a woman being groped in public wailed on the perpetrator there might be some sort of deterrent from such behavior. Unfortunately, we live in a society where people are just "too busy" to look out for each other.

Some dude started rubbing up against me once on the subway in Boston. I can assure you that the scene that ensued was not a pretty one.
